DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Biotechnology company Discovery Laboratories Inc. said Wednesday it named W. Thomas Amick chairman, replacing Herbert H. McDade Jr.McDade, who was chairman for the last eight years, will remain a director.Amick worked at Johnson & Johnson for 30 years, including a stint as vice president of its Ortho Biotech Oncology franchise. Amick also served as president of Ortho Biotech Europe and of Janssen-Ortho Canada and as vice president for business development of the company's venture capital division, Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation.Amick is currently chairman and chief executive of adult stem cell developer Aldagen Inc. He is also on the board of various other biotech companies and acts an adviser to Quaker BioVentures Inc. and Intersouth Partners.Discovery Laboratories, which develops surfactant replacement therapies (SRT) for respiratory diseases, is concentrating on obtaining FDA approval for its drug Surfaxin.Shares dipped 1 cent to $2.08 during afternoon trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
