CUPERTINO, California: Security software maker Symantec Corporation has introduced Ghost 10.0, the latest edition of its beak-up and restore software, which is capable of capturing the contents of the entire drive, including all files, folders, system settings and customizations to enable "complete" back-ups.
The company said the new version has a feature called "personalized protection", which automatically detects when new storage devices are added to the computer and determines which drives should be backed up and which are optimal storage destination locations. It also incorporates a performance throttling function, which controls system resource usage based on present computing processes so that resources can be more effectively utilised when creating recovery points.
The company has priced the product at $70, while users of the current version can get an upgrade for $50. It will be available in shelves in late September.
The product, meant for the Windows OS, supports 128-, 192- and 256-bit AES encryption strengths. The company said in a statement that the product offers consumers an effortless and adaptive tool for backing up their entire computer and for ensuring quick, easy and convenient file-level or complete system recovery.
Mathew Moynahan, Symantec's vice president, consumer products and solutions, said today's computer users need a solution like Norton Ghost 10.0, which makes backup and recovery of important data and files easy and convenient at all levels of computing sophistication.
When there is an improper system shutdown, Ghost 10.0's reconciliation capabilities allow users to continue to perform incremental backups on their system for the same initial base -- even when the system's state has changed between baseline and scheduled recovery points.
