(Updating with further details on Rosneft, Promneftstroi connection)

MOSCOW (Thomson Financial) - Russia's biggest oil company Rosneft has denied it took part in an auction for the Dutch unit of Yukos, contradicting earlier reports, according to the Interfax news agency.

A Rosneft spokesman told the Interfax news agency that the company had not taken part in the auction.

The debate centres of the relationship between Rosneft and Promneftstroi.

Promneftstroi won the Yukos Finance unit in an auction in Moscow this morning for over over 7.8 bln roubles.

Rosneft has sold Promneftstroi to Monte-Valle, Steven Lynch, the founder of Monte-Valle, told reporters cited by Interfax.

However Interfax also pointed out that according to a list of entities affiliated to Rosneft, drawn up on June 30, 2007, Promneftstroi was affiliated to the oil company.

Rosneft has not yet officially announced that Promneftstroi is no longer affiliated to the company, Interfax said.

In addition, the Dutch unit of Yukos, Yukos Finance, has insisted that as the bankruptcy of Yukos has not been recognised under Dutch law, Russia is not entitled to sell its assets, according to Russian press agencies.
