HELSINKI (Thomson Financial) - Helsinki shares were slightly higher in a mixed midday trade with Nokia-led losses offsetting gains in a group of key stocks.

At 11.44 am, the OMX Helsinki 25 was 0.04 pct higher at 3,302.92, while the OMX Helsinki all-share index was 0.04 pct lower at 12,198.92 on a volume of 197 mln eur.

Nokia was 0.19 pct lower at 26.17 eur.

ABN Amro downgraded Nokia to 'hold' from 'buy,' with the broker seeing little room for the stock to move higher after a very strong run-up in the handset maker's shares.

The broker said the likelihood of the company's third quarter results beating analyst expectations is already priced into the stock.

ABN said it is also concerned about recent negative operator comments about OVI, the company's online Internet service where customers can download music, maps and games onto their Nokia phones.

Of the fallers, Stora Enso R was down 0.72 pct to 12.43 eur, Metso shed 0.33 pct at 47.98 eur, Elisa lost 0.97 pct at 22.43 eur and Konecranes was 0.63 pct lower at 30.09 eur.

Among the gainers, Sampo A was 0.83 pct higher at 21.85 eur, Cargotec added 0.75 pct to 36.15 eur and TeliaSonera was up 1.28 pct at 6.33 eur.

Elsewhere, Kesko B was down 0.68 pct at 45.14 eur.

Finnish retailers may be forced to close early on Friday when workers from service union United PAM stage a one-day strike, Finnish media reported. Talks on a new wages and working conditions contract for some 170,000 employees in the retail sector ended shortly before 2.00 am this morning, without agreement.
