(updates with breakdown of sales, order book, comments on employment levels, )PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Atos Origin said its sales rose 11.1 pct to 1.418 bln eur in the third quarter, up from 1.277 bln a year earlier thanks to fast growth in its IT operations management division.That was at the high end of expectations for Atos Origin's third quarter performance, which analysts had seen at between 1.37 bln and 1.41 bln eur.The French IT consulting and outsourcing business also said it is on track to achieve targeted organic sales growth of 4 pct this year and an operating margin slightly higher than in 2006.Organic growth in the third quarter was 6.6 pct and services sales grew 13.3 pct or 9.3 pct on an organic basis.By activity, consulting sales were down 18.5 pct at 79 mln eur, systems integration was up 5 pct at 549 mln and managed operations sales grew 20.2 pct at 790 mln.Over the first nine months of 2007, new orders rose 9 pct from a year earlier and at end-September the backlog was 7.6 bln eur, equivalent to 1.3 years sales and up 9.6 pct from a year earlier.Turning to the strategy, Atos said it is on target to have 8,000 employees offshore and in neighbouring countries at the end of 2009 from 2,700 at present, of whom more than 2,100 staff are in India.greg.keller@thomson.comgk1/lam/mrg/jagCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
