Spain Aug current account deficit widens to 6.734 bln eur vs 6.438 bln

MADRID (Thomson Financial) - Spain's current account deficit widened to 6.734 bln eur in August from 6.438 bln a year earlier, the Bank of Spain said.

In a statement, the central bank said the trade deficit decreased to 6.981 bln eur from 7.440 bln, mainly due to greater export growth of 8.0 pct compared to import growth of 2.4 pct.

In the eight months to August, the current account deficit widened to 66.817 bln eur from 56.149 bln, as the trade deficit increased to 55.481 bln from 52.253 bln.
