WARRENSBURG, Mo. (AP) - William E. James, former publisher of the Cass County Democrat-Missourian in Harrisonville, has been named publisher of Warrensburg's daily newspaper, The Daily Star-Journal.James replaces Avis Green Tucker, who took over as owner and publisher of The Daily Star-Journal after the 1966 death of her husband, William Tucker. The Tucker family recently sold The Daily Star-Journal, which has a daily circulation of about 4,500, to the News-Press Gazette Co. of St. Joseph.James, who is now vice president of sales with Inland Newspaper Machinery Corp., was scheduled to begin work at The Daily Star-Journal on Nov. 26.James is also a former president of HLB Newspapers Inc. and of Cass County Publishing Co. He is also a member of the Missouri Press Association, serving as its president in 1998, and of the National Newspaper Association, which he was state chairman of in 1996.He was inducted into the Missouri Press Association Hall of Fame in 2001.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
