BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - France's Areva could win a 5 bln usd usd deal to construct two nuclear reactors in southern China, after losing a major contract to Westinghouse Electric just two months earlier, the Financial Times reported.Areva is in advanced negotiations with China Guangdong Nuclear Power, a government official told the newspaper, and a decision is expected soon, the report said.Executives at Areva's office in Beijing could not be reached for comment on Wednesday. In December, the Chinese chose Westinghouse's AP1000 technology over Areva's third generation European Pressurised Water Reactor as the basis for four nuclear plants. The decision came after public pressure from the US government.Soon after awarding the first nuclear tender for four reactors to Westinghouse, Chinese officials sought to reassure the French government that neither Areva nor the French electricity company EDF, would be excluded from the country's nuclear programme. The deal under discussion is to build 3.2 gigawatts of generation capacity, the FT said.virginie.mangin@xinhuafinance.com
