NEW YORK (AP) - Sterling Bancorp, parent company of Sterling National Bank, on Thursday said it added 800,000 shares to its buyback program.The addition expands Sterling's current buyback authorization to about 933,000 shares. The company has about 18.6 million shares outstanding.This is the sixth stock repurchase program approved by the company since 1997, Sterling said.Shares rose 21 cents to $18.84 during midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
