Roche phase III study shows rheumatoid arthritis drug Actemra effective |

ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - Roche Holdings AG said that data from a phase III study has shown that patients receiving rheumatoid arthritis Actemra in combination with methotrexate achieved rapid and significant improvement in their symptoms compared to patients receiving methotrexate alone.In the 24-week study, 44 pct of patients receiving Actemra achieved a 50 pct improvement of symptoms, while only 11 pct of patients without the drug achieved similar results, the Swiss pharma group said.In addition, 28 pct of patients in the Actemra group achieved the ultimate goal of remission, as compared to only 1 pct in the control group.The results of the first phase III study for Actemra outside Japan was presented today at the European League Against Rheumatism in Spain.johanna.treeck@thomson.comjmt/sljCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
