The Global Internet Telephony Company, Skype, has officially launched its voicemail services, Skype Voicemail. This service allows users to maintain a continuous presence even if they are offline. The Skype voicemail was first introduced as a beta in April 2005. This is the company's second pre-paid premium offering.
Announcing the general availability of the Skype Voicemail, Niklas Zennstrom, CEO and co-founder of Skype, said, "As we continue to enhance the Skype offering, we expand Skype's benefits to users and deliver more potential in modern communication and collaboration. We're pleased to offer Skype Voicemail as an affordable premium enhancement to the more than 42 million Skype users around the world."
| The service allows customers to send prerecorded greetings to any other Skype user regardless of whether the recipient is a Voicemail subscriber or not. Users can also leave unlimited Voicemail messages for all Skype users even if they are offline.
Additionally, users can personalize Skype Voicemail, set their answer preferences, customize their greeting and receive messages up to 10 minutes long. The service is available for EUR 5 ($7) for three months or EUR 15 ($19) for one year. Users can pay either with a credit card or via PayPal or Moneybookers at the Skype Store.
In other news, Skype has released Skype for Windows v1.3. This feature includes enhancements for importing new contacts to existing lists and a more customizable user profile area. Contacts can also be added from various desktop applications, including MSN and Microsoft Outlook.
The company added that Skype applications for mobile operating systems such as embedded Linux, Symbian and Windows Mobile are in the process of being given final touches, though no release dates were announced.
