WASHINGTON (AP) - Wachovia Corp. has asked federal regulators to approve three new bank branches.The Treasury Department's Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said in a weekly bulletin of regulatory activity, released Wednesday, that Wachovia's requests to open the new branches were received Aug. 6 and Aug. 8.The branches, if approved, will be located in: San Jose, Calif.; Houston, Texas; and Avon, Conn.Shares of Wachovia rose $1.64, or 3.6 percent, to $47.20 in afternoon trading Thursday.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
