PARIS (Thomson Financial) - BNP Paribas' Italian subsidiary Banca Nazionale del Lavoro (BNL) is planning to expand its network in Italy by opening up new branches, La Tribune reported, citing BNL chairman Luigi Abete.'We have a plan to develop in Italy by opening 100 new banks,' Abete said. The paper said Abete indicated that the group is 'not paying too much attention' to the planned sale of 180 branches by Unicredit to meet competition authority requirements following its purchase of Capitalia, nor to Intesa Sanpaolo's need to sell some banks to get regulatory approval for its purchase of Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze.Instead, the bank aims to open its own new branches, La Tribune said.helen.beresford@thomson.comhem/vlbCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
