(adds detail)BRUSSELS (Thomson Financial) - New car registrations for the EU member states, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland fell 1.5 pct in September from a year earlier to 1,420,043 units, European automobile association ACEA said.ACEA said there was one working day less in September than the previous year.In the nine months to September, there were 0.7 pct more new cars registered compared with 2006.Among European brands, Volkswagen AG's new car registrations fell 6.8 pct, the PSA Group -- comprising Peugeot SA and Citroen -- were down 4.6 pct, Renault fell 10.5 pct, Daimler was up 9.1 pct, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG rose 3.3 pct, while Fiat climbed 3.4 pct.US brand Ford Motor Co edged down by 0.6 pct in new car registrations, while peer General Motors Corp rose 4.7 pct.Among Asian brands, Nissan Motor Co's registrations rose 1.5 pct, Hyundai Motor Co registrations fell 8.6 pct, Mazda Motor Corp were 2.8 pct lower, and Toyota Motor Corp dropped by 8.9 pct, while Honda Motor Co jumped 10.5 pct.phil.mccomish@thomson.compam/jlwCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
