AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Chip developer Cirrus Logic Inc. said Thursday it has permanently named Thurman K. Case as the company's chief financial officer.

Case, 50, has been acting CFO since September. He replaced John T. Kurtzweil, who left to become CFO of another company.

Cirrus Logic is one of more than 180 companies conducting internal investigations or subject to probes by the Securities and Exchange Commission or Justice Department regarding potential backdating of stock options.

The company is delinquent in filing financial reports with the SEC. The Nasdaq Stock Market has notified the company that its stock could be delisted unless it files the financials by April 18.

Case, who joined the company in 2000 and has served in a variety of financial posts, will be responsible for accounting, budgeting, financial planning and other duties.

'He brings a wealth of experience and leadership skills in financial management, and as our new chief financial officer he can contribute strongly toward our goals of expanding operating margins and further improving earnings,' David D. French, the company's president and chief executive, said in a statement.

Shares of Cirrus Logic fell 7 cents to close at $8.17 on the Nasdaq.
