TAIPEI (XFN-ASIA) - Former Taiwan premier Frank Hsieh announced he will seek the ruling party's nomination for the 2008 presidential race.'I will register with the party between March 5-8 in order to enter the primary, Hsieh told reporters in Kaohsiung without elaborating.'I have not decided on a partner yet.'Last year Hsieh lost the mayoral race in Taipei. He stood down as premier a year ago and has been seen as a leading possible contender for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), along with premier Su Tseng-chang, party chairman Yu Shyi-kun and vice president Annette Lu.The DPP this week jumpstarted its nomination process for 2008 presidential polls.Earlier, opposition leader Ma Ying-jeou made a surprise announcement that he will run for president, after he resigned as chairman of the Kuomintang party following his indictment on corruption charges.afp/
