TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - The tertiary index, which measures spending in the services sector, rose 1.6 pct to 110.7 in January from December, the first increase in three months, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said, citing preliminary data.That followed a 0.4 pct decline in December from the previous month.Year-on-year, the index rose 1.3 pct following the same 1.3 pct increase in December.The services sector employs more than half of Japan's workforce, and spending on services such as retailing, dining and travel is closely tied to changes in income and consumer confidence.(1 usd = 117.33 yen)kaori.kaneko@xfn.comkk/mas
