TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Nissan Motor Co Ltd said it will reduce production at two of its plants from April, as a result of sluggish sales in Japan.Output will be reduced at the Oppama plant in Kanagawa prefecture and at its factory in Tochigi prefecture but the firm declined to provide details of the size of the cuts. The Nikkei earlier reported that the automaker plans to slash output by 20 pct at the two plants. The Oppama plant produces sub-compact vehicles for the domestic market, while the Tochigi facility makes Skyline sedans and other middle- to top-of-the-line vehicles, the report said. The Nikkei said each of the plants has two assembly lines and Nissan will cut back on operating time on one line at each faciltiy.Meanwhile Nissan said it will lower output until June at the Oppama plant but did not say how long the production cut would last at its factory in Tochigi.(1 usd = 116.85 yen)kaori.kaneko@xfn.com
