Virgin Money Credit Cards interestingly revealed that housewives in the UK were now following on the footsteps of the ‘Desperate housewives’ and spending an enormous £5 billion in creating perhaps another Wisteria Lane for themselves!
With about £3,488 being squandered away on beauty regimes, revamping homes and gardens, UK wives admitted to this spree and said that the hit soap had influenced them to compete with their neighbours in status as well as appearance.
| However, three-fourths of the women in UK were friends with their neighbours albeit the prevailing status campaign.
Competing housewives were found to spend a sizeable amount of £1,633 purely on doing up the home and the garden, allotting the other £3,488 to clothes, haircuts, cosmetics along with beauty and skin treatments.
While Scottish women were found to prefer spending largely on their looks and physical care, women in the Midlands were discovered to be spending the least in that area. The report further disclosed that women in relationships were the eager or the more ‘desperate’ ones to fritter pounds on their appearance as compared to their single counterparts.
Mr. Mowbray finally recommended housewives using credit cards to opt for zero % promotional rate cards. He also endorsed lower rate cards for those planning further expenses.
