STOCKHOLM (Thomson Financial) - Swedish mining company Boliden AB said it expects production at its zinc smelter at Kokkola in Finland, and at its copper smelter at Harjavalta, to continue as normal in the event of a strike by the Finnish Union of Salaried Employees (TU).The TU is in dispute with larger Finnish companies over a new national two-year collective agreement. The action will affect supervisors, lab personnel, and accounting staff at Boliden's plants, but not key production staff.'Our assessment is that production at the two smelters will continue as normal,' said the company, adding that if the strike does go ahead it will also make special arrangements to cover the tasks of striking employees. The TU has given notice of a strike starting Oct 22 if an agreement is not reached. 137 employees at Boliden Kokkola and 75 at Boliden Harjavalta, covered under the salaried employees' collective agreement, will be affected.simon.richardson@thomson.comsjr/vlbCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
