MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - FedEx Corp.'s FedEx Freight and FedEx National LTL announced a general rate increase of 5.59 percent Friday to take effect April 2.FedEx National is a long-haul, less-than-truckload service of the Memphis-based shipping corporation's freight unit.Rates for FedEx Corp.'s other divisions, including FedEx Express and FedEx Ground, are not affected, the company said.'Shippers have told us they require a high degree of certainty, shipment integrity and actionable information. In order to meet these customer needs, FedEx Freight and FedEx National LTL are continuing to invest in our people, equipment, facilities and technology,' Dennie Carey, senior vice president of marketing for FedEx Freight, said in announcing the rate increase.The increase will apply to interstate and intrastate traffic and selected shipments between the United States and Mexico and Canada, the company said.Rate quotes will be available after April 2 on Web sites for FedEx Freight and FedEx National, http://www.fedex.com/us/freight/main/and http://fedex.com/us/national/main/, the company said.FedEx Freight had revenue of $3.6 billion in 2006.
