LONDON (AFX) - Leading European exchanges moved higher in opening deals after a mixed session overnight on Wall Street, with the tech sector in focus after disappointment from Intel overnight but a strong set of numbers from ASML, dealers said.At 08.30, the STOXX 50 was up 5.14 points at 3773.01 and the ST0XX 600 was 0.81 points higher at 372.82.Overnight on Wall Street, the DJIA ended 26.51 points higher at 12,582.59, just below a new trading peak of 12,585.08 but the Nasdaq ended 5.04 points lower at 2,497.78.In Asia, the Nikkei 225 index closed 58.89 points higher at 17,261.35, while the Hang Seng index ended its morning session 92.05 points firmer at 20,120.00.Meanwhile crude prices recovered slightly in Asian trade today but remained close to their lowest levels since May 2005 after Saudi Arabia indicated that it would not back an emergency meeting of OPEC aimed at propping up slumping prices.Back in Europe, EADS fell 2.37 pct after it warned its Airbus unit will post a full year EBIT loss for 2006, as charges related to the A380 project may be higher than previously expected. While it said this will be offset by EBIT gains in other divisions analysts moved to cut their forecasts. But the tech sector was higher -- despite a disappointing update from Intel overnight -- thanks to better than expected numbers from ASML and Sony Ericsson.ASML added 5.05 pct and Ericsson added 1.53 pct.deborah.hyde@afxnews.comdlh/dlh/jfrCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
