NEW YORK (AFX) - MTV Networks' 24-hour college network, mtvU, said Wednesday it agreed to acquire the RateMyProfessors.com Web site for an undisclosed amount.'This acquisition reflects MTV's strategy of being everywhere our audience is and harnessing its creative firepower -- in this case the millions of ratings generated by students on RateMyProfessors.com,' said Christina Norman, president of MTV, which is owned by Viacom Inc.MTV said the deal is expected to close during the current quarter.MTV's mtvU is an online-only channel that launched in January 2004. The unit also acquired Y2M, parent company of College Publisher, a network of online college newspapers in the U.S.Shares of Viacom rose 1 cent to $41.88 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
