LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Canadian gold producer Yamana Gold said it has just completed a scoping study, which indicated the presence of 'additional gold and copper' that can be recovered from its Chapada Pyrite project in Brazil. The study also identified that sulphuric acid can be recovered from the pyrite concentrate taken from the tailings. In a statement, Yamana said over the Chapada mine life, about 10.6 mln tonnes of acid would be produced and an additional 320,000 ounces of gold and 94 mln pounds of copper would be recovered based on the Chapada mine's current reserves. The company said it will launch a marketing study to determine local availability of sulphuric acid, followed by a final feasibility study.Yamana said it will assess the idea of selling sulphuric acid and pyrite to end users, adding that early talks with prospective buyers for sulphuric acid have so far been encouraging.TFN.newsdesk@thomson.comssa/jagCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
