IBM to launch free rival to Microsoft's Office software

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - International Business Machines Corp will launch today a free software package that will rival Microsoft Corp's Office suite, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The newspaper said IBM will post the package, called Symphony, on the internet with applications that will compete with Microsoft's Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs.

Microsoft Office sells for about 120 usd on internet retail sites, the Wall Street Journal said.
