FDA approves J&J infection treatment |

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it approved a new Johnson & Johnson drug to treat infections of the urinary tract and inner abdomen.The injectable drug, called Doribax, is expected to be used by hospitalized patients to fight serious bacterial infections.FDA said the drug performed similarly to another Johnson & Johnson drug Levaquin in treating urinary tract infections and as well as Astrazeneca's Merrem in treating inner abdominal infections.The most commmonly reported adverse in patients taking the drug were headache, nausea, diarrhea and rash.Shares of Johnson & Johnson rose 21 cents to $65.06 in after-hours trading and ended the regular trading session down 22 cents Wednesday to close at $64.85.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
