TAIPEI (XFN-ASIA) - China Construction Bank (CCB) (HK 939, SHA 601939) is interested in setting up a representative office in Taiwan if the island is open to the presence of a mainland bank, the Taipei-based Economic Daily News reported.Citing the bank's chairman, Guo Shuqing, the report said the bank hopes to cooperate with Taiwanese banks.CCB, one of China's leading state-owned banks, did not elaborate on the extent of the cooperation.Taiwan at present bars China banks from establishing offices in the island.'Existing regulations prohibit China banks from setting up offices in Taiwan,' said an official from the Mainland Affairs Council, which sets the island's policies toward Beijing.adela.lin@afxasia.comal/kmqxfnal/xfnkmCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
