BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China Unicom Group, the parent company of Hong Kong-listed China Unicom Ltd(HK 0762), has launched its 3G mobile phone service in Macau, the official Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement from China Unicom Group.According to the report, the service, which is based on the US-developed CDMA2000 standard, features high-speed data transmissions that can allow users to watch videos, play 3D games, and conduct video conferences. The report said that two cell phones numbers, one for mainland China and one for Macau, are embedded in one SIM (subscriber identity model) card, which can save on expensive international roaming fees for customers who travel to the mainland.China Unicom is the only CDMA provider in Macau and four rivals are bidding for another license based on Europe's WCDMA technology.susan.wang@xfn.com-xfaws/xfnjanmCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
