(adds more quotes by CEO Mayrhuber)BERLIN, Germany (Thomson Financial) - Deutsche Lufthansa AG chief executive Wolfgang Mayrhuber said the airline is generally interested in making acquisitions if the right opportunity arises.The company 'is in the position to make acquisitions (such as) 'Swiss'', he said, but added that the flagship carrier wants to 'mainly grow organically'.The CEO further said he does 'not expect anything new on the acquisition front in the near future'.Mayrhuber, speaking at the company's AGM, also reiterated that Lufthansa aims to exceed 1 bln eur operating profit in 2008 at the latest.In the past weeks, the market has speculated that Lufthansa may want to take over Alitalia or Iberia.The company said in the past that Iberia is currently too expensive due to a high amount of speculation on the market.patrizia.kokot@thomson.compk/mas/amb/pk/jlcCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
