Sarkozy vows to keep Airbus' Meaulte site open |

Toulouse (Thomson Financial) - Nicolas Sarkozy today said he is determined to keep Airbus' Meaulte production site open and running, and pledged government financial help to back his promises.At a meeting with Airbus unions in Toulouse, Sarkozy said 'I intend to fight for the continuity of the site,' stressing that the new economy minister Jean-Louis Borloo 'will have the means necessary to provide financing for Meaulte.'In March this year, EADS's troubled aircraft unit Airbus said it was looking for investors for its core production plants in Meaulte, France, Nordenham, Germany and Filton in the UK, raising concerns over the future of the sites.Airbus also said it is planning to sell its German plants in Laupheim and Varel, as well as its facility in Saint Nazaire, France to investors.vicky.buffery@thomson.comafp/vb/jlcCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
