SHANGHAI (XFN-ASIA) - China's commercial banks registered a drop of 1.38 percentage points in their non-performing loan (NPL) ratio to 7.23 pct in 2006, state media reported.Citing figures from the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), national television station CCTV said the banks' NPL ratio at the end of 2006 stood at 7.23 pct, against the official figure of 8.61 pct at end-2005.As of the end of 2006, the level of non-performing loans (NPL) in China's commercial banks fell by 49.46 bln yuan from a year earlier, CCTV said.At the end of 2005, NPLs totaled 1.31 trln yuan.(1 usd = 7.8 yuan)qionghui.feng@xinhuafinance.comqf/net
