HELSINKI (AFX) - With Finland's general elections two months away, most Finnish voters favour a second term for the centre-left government, a poll published today in the Helsingin Sanomat daily showed.The Gallup poll showed that 41 pct of voters want the government of Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen -- a coalition of the Centre, Social Democratic and Liberal parties -- to remain in power.A left-right coalition between the Social Democrats and conservative National Coalition Party garnered 22 pct support, while 18 pct of respondents said they would back a centre-right grouping of the Centre and conservative parties.18 pct of those surveyed would not disclose their opinion.Finland's general elections are set for March 18.The survey showed 44 pct wanted to see Vanhanen remain prime minister, a post he has held since 2003.Since the 1990s, Finnish politics has been characterised by power shifting between the Centre Party, the Social Democrats and the National Coalition Party.Today's poll was conducted by telephone among 1,000 people between January 1 and 12.newsdesk@afxnews.comafp/ambCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
