Motorola gets India 3G network contract |

NEW YORK (AFX) - Cell phone maker Motorola Inc. said Thursday it won a contract from India's Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. to build a third-generation cellular network in Delhi and the surrounding region.Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.Mahanagar Telephone Nigam, a government-controlled telecom company, is expanding its GSM network by 2 million lines. The agreement covers network deployment and maintenance services for a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, a type of 3G mobile network.Mahanagar Telephone Nigam said the deal, which represents the first UTMS roll-out in India, will help it achieve low costs per subscriber and maintain consistent service quality in a high-growth market.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
