TALLINN (AFX) - Guido Sammelselg, one of the former owners of Estonian Railways, has confirmed claims made by partner Edward Burkhardt that the ruling Reform Party asked for a 1 mln eur bribe to facilitate a deal to reprivatise the railway company.Burkhardt said during a television interview aired yesterday that the ruling party asked for the bribe from his consortium Baltic Rail Services before the government bought back the majority stake in Estonia railways for 2.35 bln kroons earlier this month.Sammelselg said, 'Such a thing happened and that was the sum asked. It was meant seriously by the offering party. We considered it and refused.' He added he felt it was not idle talk but a serious proposition.Juri Kao, one of the owners of BRS, has rejected the claims, saying he was not offered anything, while the Reform Party has called the allegations slanderous.newsdesk@afxnews.comcmr/vlbCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
