TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - The government plans to keep its overall assessment of the economy unchanged for the second straight month, noting that it is improving, the Nikkei reported, without citing sources. The monthly economic report for January is expected to state that 'the economy is recovering despite some weakness in consumption,' in line with the wording from a month earlier, the business daily said. This would mean that the current economic expansion, which started in February 2002, has now continued for five full years, it said. The January report is to be submitted by Minister of Economy and Fiscal Policy Hiroko Ota to relevant ministers on Monday, the report said.Regarding personal consumption, a factor that is being closely watched, the report is expected to say that it is 'more or less flat,' repeating the previous month's description, it said. The government's January report is expected to maintain the view that capital investment is increasing on the back of growing corporate earnings, the Nikkei said.As for an economic outlook, the report is expected to again forecast a sustained recovery by observing that strong corporate profits are feeding into the household sector, it said.(1 usd = 121.23 yen)yasuhiko.seki@xfn.com
