PARIS (Thomson Financial) - French national train operator SNCF will launch two calls for bids by the end of next year for contracts worth 1 bln eur to renew both its high-speed TGV trains and its TER regional trains, Les Echos reported.According to the business daily, which did not disclose its sources, SNCF is preparing with France's regional authorities a tender process for the TER order that could be launched at the end of this year. The contract could cover more than 500 trains to be delivered from 2011-12. The cost would be 6-7 mln eur per train for 350-seater models and more than 10 mln eur each for a 700-seater version. At the same time, SNCF plans to launch some time next year the tender process for new TGV trains, Les Echos said, with the order potentially comprising 200 carriages to be delivered from 2014.In early April, SNCF managing director Guillaume Pepy had already told BFM radio the company will launch a call for tenders with a view to replacing its high-speed trains as of 2013, with Alstom, Siemens and Bombardier expected to be in the running. In a separate tender process, SNCF chief executive Anne-Marie Idrac confirmed earlier this month the train operator has chosen Alstom for an order for double-decker TGV trains. The contract, due to be announced officially by the end of June, comprises a firm order for 80 carriages and an option for a further 40.tfn.paris@thomson.comgt/ms1COPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
