LONDON - England pace Darren Gough has wowed audiences to sweep away the Strictly Come Dancing reality show on BBC, while Shayne Ward walked away with the honors on ITV's X factor.

Gough overcame stiff challenges from Colin Jackson, the former athlete and TV presenter Zoe Ball to enthrall the viewers with a spectacular show. One judge had referred to his hands a spatulas and Goughie as he is called in cricketing circles waved those very hands as he tapped away to victory. "I thought I would be saying this 10 weeks ago but it has been an amazing journey for a guy who has never danced," Gough said.

It is said that he took up ballroom dancing only about 10 days ago. Paying handsome tributes to his dancing partner Lilia Kopylova, Gough said, "She has turned me into some sort of dancer. I cannot believe I had the confidence to do that tonight."

Colin Jackson had odds of 4/6 coming into the finals and he was the bookmakers' favorite. But Gogh turned it around and it was rumored that £3 million had been gambled on the outcomes of both Dancing and the X Factor.

Shayne Ward thrilled audiences with Over the Rainbow, When a Child is Born and If You're Not the One in the initial segments. "It's about making my mum happy and making my family proud," he said after the win, which he dedicated to Philomena, his mother.

Ward has crooned for a song called That's My Goal, which is all set to debut as a single next week. He said that he wants to style himself on pop icon Robbie Williams, "Robbie is all about entertaining people and that's what I want to do."

Strictly Come Dancing had 10.9 million viewers tuned in, while the X Factor managed to attract 10 million viewers.
