WASHINGTON (AP) - Wachovia Corp. won federal approval to open five new bank branches, the Treasury Department's Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said.The OCC said in a weekly bulletin of regulatory activity, released Wednesday, that Charlotte, N.C.-based Wachovia's requests to open the branches were approved July 9, July 11 and July 13.The branches will be located in Montebello, Calif.; Asheville, N.C.; Chatsworth, Calif.; Los Angeles; and Estero, Fla.The agency also said it received three applications from Wachovia July 11 and July 12 to open new branches in Houston, Texas; East Hartford, Conn.; and Concord, N.C.Shares of Wachovia dropped 57 cents to $51.05 in morning trading Thursday.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
