TAIPEI (XFN-ASIA) - High Tech Computer Corp (2498.TW) rejected a media report that it has secured a smartphone contract from Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB as speculation.It was responding to a report in the Commercial Times that the company has been given a contract to design and assemble what would be Sony Ericsson's first smartphone run on Microsoft Corp's Windows Mobile platform.With the order estimated to exceed 1 mln units, the Sony Ericsson smartphone is due to hit the market in the second half of 2008, the report said.As the Taiwan company now ships some 10 mln smartphones per year, the Sony Ericsson contract would be expected to expand High Tech's shipments by 10-20 pct, it added.In today's trade, High Tech Computer closed up 12.50 twd or 2.78 pct at 462.50.(1 usd = 33.10 twd)philip.wang@afxasia.compw/kmqxfnpw/xfnkm/xfnkmCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
