ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - Roche Holdings AG said a study has shown that its anaemia treatment Mircera, administered once a month, is as effective as currently available drugs, which patients have to take more frequently.Mircera is the first drug that directly converts patients from frequent dosing to once-monthly dosing, the Swiss pharma group said. The so-called Maxima study involving 673 patients with stable chronic renal anaemia found that haemoglobin levels of those given Mircera once every four weeks were maintained on similar concentrations as other treatments which have to be administered one to three times a week.Chronic renal anaemia is a complication arising from chronic kidney disease which affects approximately one in ten of the general population.huimin.neo@thomson.comjmt/hmn/jfrCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
