(AP) - Among the earnings stories for Friday, Oct. 19, from AP Financial News:

Top stories:

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Heavy-equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. said Friday that its third-quarter earnings rose 21 percent, but lowered its outlook for the year based on slow U.S. economic growth.

Other stories:

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Less than two weeks after its stock price smashed through $600 for the first time, Google Inc. showed why it might not be long before the Internet search leader's shares are flirting with $700.

HOUSTON (AP) -- Schlumberger Ltd. kicked off earnings season for oilpatch companies Friday, reporting a 35 percent jump in third-quarter profit that was tempered by weaker-than-expected results in North America. Its shares slid sharply.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A continued sluggish U.S. market for motorcycles pushed Harley-Davidson Inc.'s third-quarter profit down 15.3 percent, and the motorcycle maker said it expects next year to be difficult, too.

CHICAGO (AP) -- Strong breakfast sales in the U.S. and a weak dollar overseas proved a potent combination for McDonald's Corp. in the third quarter, helping to power the fast-food chain to a 27 percent jump in profit despite rising costs.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Diversified manufacturer Honeywell International Inc. reported a 14 percent rise in third-quarter earnings on Friday and boosted its outlook for full-year profit and sales.
