COPENHAGEN (Thomson Financial) - Danish pharmaceutical group Lundbeck will close its US office in King of Prussia following its decision to discontinue development of insomnia treatment Gaboxadol, US newspaper Philadelphia Inquirer reported.'Gaboxadol was expected to be the foundation from which we would build our US pharmaceutical franchise,' Lundbeck spokeswoman Caroline Broge said according to the newspaper.'It is still a strategic goal for Lundbeck to establish a commercial presence in the US, but now we have to set new plans,' Broge said. She added that Lundbeck might seek US regulatory approval for its schizophrenia drug Serdolect, which is presently sold in Europe, and that products currently in its pipeline could be registered in the US further on.Lundbeck and partner Merck & Co said on March 28 they would discontinue development of Gaboxadol after studies found that the drug had serious side effects.gustav.sandstrom@thomson.comgs/jlcCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
