LONDON: DSG International Plc, a pan-European electrical goods trader, is opening an Electro World store in Warsaw in Poland, the first such in a east European country. It will have 20 such Electro World stores in central Europe, the company, earlier known as Dixons Group, said.

There will be a second store in Poland opening by the end of the year, and then in Czech Republic and Hungary. DSG said with these stores, the company will have presence in 14 countries and its overseas operations will bring in more than a third of its total revenue.

The company wants to ward of the uncertainties of the retail segment in Britain and the European expansion is the only immediate solution. With the planned expansion, the Electro World stores will cover markets with a total population of more than 65 million, said DSG's chief executive John Clare. Apart from Electro World, DSG owns PC World, The Link, PC City and Mastercare brands.

Clare said the company had a detailed operational and financial review of the performance of Electro World brand in Czech Republic and Hungary, where it has trading arrangements, and the decision to set shops in Poland and other European countries is a result of this review.

Electro World employs more than 700 people in central Europe. Across the group, DSG has 1400 stores, employs 40,000 staff and serves more than 100 million customers a year. It has a partnership agreement with Russia's Eldorado Group.
