Taiwan’s BenQ Corp. has notified that about 10,000 third-generation mobile phones, i.e. 3G handsets are being delivered to telecom operators in Europe every month.
BenQ’s networking and communications business group director, Chen Ching-lung gave the news during a conference celebrating the formal introduction of its first 3G handset called, “S80”.
Chairman of the company, KY Lee added that the shipment of 3G handsets to Chunghwa Telecom Co Ltd. and Taiwan Mobile Co Ltd, both based in Taiwan, was in the offing, as these companies had not yet launched the service. Lee also said that 3G handsets were gaining ground and by the completion of the year, they could be anticipated to hold an increased 20 % of the entire amount of handsets present in the European market against the present clench of 10%.
Positioning the “S80” as the island's very first self-developed 3G handset, BenQ maintains that its new phone is the tiniest 3G handset in the world with 89.9 x 45.1 x 23.95 mm dimensions. BenQ bought Siemens AG mobile phone business last month.
Taiwan’s Far EasTone Telecommunications Co. Ltd commenced its 3G services in the past week, with anticipations to receive about 50,000 purchasers for the service till year-end.
