Facebook buys startup Parakey

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) - Social networking Web site operator Facebook Inc. said Thursday it purchased startup company Parakey Inc.

Terms of the deal, which was Facebook's first acquisition, were not disclosed.

The startup was created by Mozilla Firefox Web browser co-founders Blake Ross and Joe Hewitt and gives users a Web-based platform and applications that combine home and online computing.

Facebook said Ross and Hewitt will work with Facebook to develop the company's platform and Web site.
