Novartis receives positive EU opinion for Galvus, Aclasta und Exelon drugs |

BASEL (Thomson Financial) - Novartis AG said three of its medications -- diabetes drug Galvus, pagent syndrome treatment Aclasta and alzheimer medication Excelon, in form of a skin patch -- have been recommended for approval by the EU's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP).The EU Commission generally follows the recommendations of the CHMP and delivers its final decision within two to three months.Novartis said the EU body has recommended Galvus for the oral treatment of Typ-II-diabetes in combination with metformin, sulphonylurea or thiazolidinedione. US approval of the drug is not expected before 2009.Aclasta has been recommended as treatment for Pagent, a painful bone disease, in postmenopausale osteoporosis, it said.Excelon skin patch received a positive opinion for treating mild to moderately severe forms of Alzheimer's disease, Novartis said.andrew.ge.thompson@thomson.comat/hjpCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
