EU inquiry deadline into Carrefour buy of Ahold's Polish retail ops March 23

BRUSSELS (AFX) - The European Commission said the deadline for its inquiry into French supermarket group Carrefour's proposed 375 mln eur acquisition of Dutch peer Royal Ahold NV's Polish retail operations is set for March 23.

Ahold hopes to finalise the sale sometime in the first half of 2007.

Ahold currently operates 179 supermarkets under the 'Albert' brand, four 'Hypernova' hypermarkets and four gas stations in Poland. The Ahold operations employ approximately 10,000 people.
