LONDON (AFX) - Viacom Inc. today is expected to announce a licensing deal with Joost, a provider of commercial video content, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition without citing sources. The licensing deal, which follows the recent collapse of similar talks between Viacom Inc. and YouTube parent Google Inc., would cover hundreds of hours of programming from Viacom cable networks such as MTV, Comedy Central and Spike as well as movies made by the company's Paramount studios. No financial details were given.Viacom Chief Executive Philippe Dauman said Joost's promise that it would protect Viacom's copyrights was a major factor in his decision to pursue the deal. The same issue hampered the company's talks with Google. This month, Viacom ordered YouTube to pull more than 100,000 clips of its programming. Joost, started last year, aims to run full episodes with high resolution rather than YouTube-style short clips.newsdesk@afxnews.comicCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
