LONDON (Thomson Financial) - BP PLC said around 90 workers at its Texas City refinery were taken to hospital last night complaining of eye irritation and nausea after being 'overcome by fumes.'The workers were carrying out repair and upgrade work on oil processing unit Pipestill 3B, which has been closed since Hurricane Rita caused the refinery to shut down in 2005.A statement released by BP said the workers were admitted at 9.30 pm for medical observation and released around 1.00 am this morning.Monitoring teams have sampled the immediate and surrounding areas and have found no evidence of a leak or release, and an investigation team has been put together to look into the incident, the statement said. The refinery is operating normally, but as a precaution, maintenance work was suspended for the evening.BP has come under intense pressure over safety lapses after an explosion at the same refinery killed 15 people in 2005.kathy.sandler@thomson.comks/ejpCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
