Cellular giant Vodafone has launched a product called 'Vodafone Simply' in the UK. The company has initially launched two stripped-down models in collaboration with French handset maker Sagem.
These phones are basic models without any attached frills like the camera, music player, audio or video features.
The company said that these models were targeted at the mature segment of the population in the age group of 40-50 years. It was felt that mobile phones were becoming increasingly confusing due to the innovative technologies that were being added almost everyday.
These handsets have a large screen and only three buttons which give direct access to the main screen, contacts and messages.
| Peter Bamford, chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone said, "We have many customers who want the latest mobile phone with all the advanced services from full track music downloads to video calling and mobile TV. We also have customers who just want to make and receive calls and text messages on their mobile phones. Vodafone Simply is as easy to use mobile service...to help them stay in touch with friends and family".
Tim Yates, chief marketing officer of Vodafone UK, agreed, "Its ideal for people who have grown up in the fifties and sixties. They are not part of the mobile phone revolution. They recognize the benefits of it but they can't get to grips with the technology," he said.
This package is aimed at those who just want to make and receive calls plus send text messages. Vodafone has introduced a special plan called the "Stop the Clock" price plan under which calls for up to an hour in the evenings and those made at weekends are only charged for the first three minutes. The handset is priced at 80 pounds.
